What is Movie News After Dark? It’s still called Movie News After Dark, despite what the network says.
We begin tonight with an example of one of the many great title cards from Cougar Town, a show that has not been about actual cougars, figurative cougars or metaphorical cougars for a very long time. But “Pay attention,” informed this week’s title card. “Cougar Town almost makes sense this week.” As someone who loves this show, the opportunity to introduce you to this gallery of Cougar Town title cards brings me great joy. It all goes back to the ongoing discussions over whether the heavily underrated show should change its name. But oddly, nothing else seems right. Who cares if it’s not about cougars? It’s really funny.
In celebration of today’s unofficial stoner holiday, Pajiba presents a list of their Favorite Potheads in Film and Television. Of course The Dude is on the list. If it wasn’t, why would I link to it? My recent history addition to this would be Ron (Nick Frost) from Attack the Block. Because there’s nowhere safer than Ron’s weed room.
“It’s capturing the essence of the comic and being true to what’s wonderful about it, while remembering that it’s a movie and not a comic. I think Spider-Man, the first one particularly, really captured [the spirit of the comic].” That’s Joss Whedon explaining how to make a good comic-book movie. Which he’s apparently done, according to the many Avengers reviews popping up online today.
The Hunger Games will come back to IMAX for a week. I wasn’t exactly sure that it had left, but apparently there’s “overwhelming demand” for more 100-foot tall Katniss action.
Tonight brings us not one, but two awesome posters. Up first, a Fake Criterion version of James Cameron’s Aquaman, a film that does not exist, but could, if this were Fringe and there was a really awesome alternate universe. Maybe that’s where this cover comes from…

Second in the poster arena is the debut of a one-sheet for Jack & Diane, the “lesbian werewolf” movie debuting at Tribeca this coming week. It’s got some Juno Temple, some Riley Keough and apparently some Kylie Minogue music. For all you Minoguehards out there.

io9′s Charlie Jane Anders presents a great piece, citing 10 Ways Self-Hating Fans Make Genre Entertainment Worse. You see, I’ve been saying it all along… It’s my fault!
“We still have to cast. I’m shooting ‘Machete’ next month, and we go right into ‘Sin City.’ It might overlap, but we haven’t done any casting yet, except for the people who we know are already in it and returning… I just had lunch with Mickey [Rourke] this weekend. He’s all excited to come back, but he’s probably the first one. I saw Rosario [Dawson] too. I ran into her for something else, and she’s pumped. They’ve always been excited about doing another one, so that will be fun.” That’s Robert Rodriguez on Sin City 2, which he’s apparently still making. For serious guys, he swears.
Over on WhatCulture, Don Hohner considers Batman’s Film Future After Chris Nolan. Simultaneously, Movies.com wants to know Which Director Should Take Over the Batman Franchise After The Dark Knight Rises? Personally, I still can’t wait for The Dark Knight Rises to come out. That should be fun.
Jordan Hoffman has taken to /Film to give you a list of The Best Nature Documentaries You Probably Haven’t Seen. I’ve seen The Crimson Wing, but I thought it was something else. Either way, it’s pretty good.
One of our beloved readers, @TheGoodJeff, sent over a link this evening to an article entitled Why Mad Men is for high-end honky ass white people. It’s quite funny, and probably more true than all of you honky ass white people are willing to admit. Yes, I mean you people.
Sony wants to turn Jaden Smith into a young adult assassin. Oops, I’ve already fallen asleep.
We close tonight with a look at the making of Transformers The Ride 3D at Universal Studios. I want to go to there.
Don’t Forget…
