What is Movie News After Dark? Mostly, it’s a nice little nightly column about movies and entertainment. Before you came along, it was nothing.

We begin tonight with a first shot of an independently produced Portal animated movie. It’s from an artist and animator named Alex Zemke, who plans to make a Portal short called Companionship. This reminds of Dan Trachtenberg’s indie short Portal: No Escape, but with some pretty cool animation. We’ll have to keep an eye on it.

Over on ESPN’s Front Row, college football analyst Ed Cunningham writes about producing Undefeated, the Oscar nominated doc about a high school football team. If you didn’t know, Cunningham also co-produced King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, one of the best documentaries of recent years. He’s basically the man.

On Game of Thrones, it’s the women who rule. Yes. IndieWire writer Bethany E. Larson. You win tonight’s awards of absolute correctness. I usually save that one for myself…

Over on a website called Red Carpet Crash, our own lovely columnist Gwen Reyes talks luxurious beards with Pirates! Band of Misfits director Peter Lord. And beard news is important news.

Continuing the very interesting discussion around Peter Jackson’s use of a (not exactly) new camera system on The Hobbit, Devin Faraci’s essay 48fps: The Ultimate Battle of Art vs. Tech adds a great deal to the already complex discussion.  Will you “settle into it” as the director insists? Time will tell.

Artist James White has published a brilliant Blade Runner poster on his blog SignalNoise. This is the kind of amazing stuff that would usually sell out in seconds on a site like Mondo. Sadly, it’s not for sale. That said, it’s really effing beautiful, is it not?

Over at CriticWire, Matt Singer polls critics on what movies belong on the Sight & Sound Greatest Film Poll. I was not polled, as they already knew my choice and thought me to be silly. Fuck you, Anchorman is a timeless classic.

Rumor has it that Apple is making a TV set and they’d like to set up a movie streaming service to compete with Netflix. I have no comment on the matter. It’s a rumor. I like movies.

Movies.com correspondent Rick Marshall gives you Essential Avengers Reading, citing 10 stories to inform your movie experience. It should be said that you don’t need any prerequisites to enjoy The Avengers, but some of you like a full experience. So do some reading.

The folks over at Screen Rant present their Guide to Season Finale Season. It saddens me to see House end on May 21 for good. That said, I can always rewatch House… a lot. It never gets old.

“The people who do know say ‘Oh, they only did this to lead into that!’ Maybe they’ll still do that with our next few movies, but it ‘ll be much less overt. I think they’ll be more likely to go, ‘What the fuck do they do now? How the fuck do they get to Avengers 2 now?’ Which I actually like.” That’s Kevin Feige explaining some of the thought behind where Marvel goes from here. In reality, the sky is the limit. You’ll understand what I’m talking about when you’re older. Like 4 days older, when The Avengers comes out. See what I did there?

We close tonight with a montage of characters looking directly at you through the silver screen.
