What is Movie News After Dark? It’s the next big thing, the opening night every night, the closing ceremony before the event even starts. It’s also a contender in the 100-meter dash.

We begin this evening with a great new image from Rian Johnson’s Looper featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt in his next breakout role. I say next because this guy seems to be on a hot streak of break-out roles. How many breakout roles can one have, anyway?

1. 10 Actors Poised to Become Major Feature-Film Stars – Speaking of breaking out, the folks at Pajiba have a list of the whose who of next year’s It list, including Jane Levy, the star of the upcoming Evil Dead remake and not to mention, a total babe.

2. Weinberg vs. Kevin Smith on the Value of Film Criticism – It’s time to take a moment to defend the art of film criticism from its staunchest opponent, director Kevin Smith. He’s become the Michael Moore to our critical party. Only Michael Moore, like any broken clock, eventually gets a few things right. Also in this arena is Devin Faraci’s screed Defend Film Criticism.

3. Crystal Skull was it for Indiana Jones - “I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah.  I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin.” If producer Frank Marshall is done, Indiana Jones is probably done, as well.

4. Iron Man 3 armor – This concept art for the Mark VIII (some are calling it Extremis) armor in IM3 is pretty slick:

5. A Guide to the Rise of Catwoman – Monika Bartyzel uses her Girls on Film column to chart the history of Catwoman as a character, from the drawn form to Anne Hathaway’s most recent rendition and everything in between. It’s quite thorough.

6. How Newman ended up in Jurassic Park - Actor Wayne Knight tells the AV Club all about how he went from Newman on Seinfeld to mucking around in the mud in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. He also talks about things he’s done more recently.

7. 9 Unintentional Dark Knight Rises Lessons – Wired outs Alfred as a hipster, explores how Thomas Tull wants to be Stan Lee and gets to the nitty gritty of Gotham’s failed prison designs.

8. The 10 Most Irrationally Evil Fictional Corporations – Yes, Weyland-Yutani Corp is appropriately high on the list.

9. E.T. heading home on Blu-ray – Mark your calendars for October 9.

10. A walking and talking supercut – So much walking. So much talking.
