Now They’re Just Rebooting Stuff You Don’t Care About: New ‘Little Rascals’ Gets a Director

File this one under “I’m sorry, what?”

Universal already made some unexpected mint with their Three Stooges reboot from earlier this year, so why not give that same treatment to something like, oh, how about The Little Rascals? What, you don’t care about The Little Rascals?

Moviehole (via Cinema Blend) reports that Universal is rebooting the classic ’30s and ’40s television show Our Gang for a new feature that will also draw inspiration from the 1994 feature film that attempted to make the cute-kids-being-tricksters trope feel more modern, with surprisingly okay results (that one also came from Uni). The film doesn’t yet have a cast, but they’ve lined up one heck of a director. The new Rascals will be helmed by one Alex Zamm, possessor of one of the most boggling resumes in current circulation. Hey, someone needs to direct the straight-to-video Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, right? Right?

Granted, Zamm is lined up to make his return to theatrical features with the live-action take on Hong Kong Phooey, but the rest of his resume is a shocking rundown of straight-to-video sequels you didn’t even know existed. Among them – Inspector Gadget 2, Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts, and Tooth Fairy 2. And did you notice that I said “return to theatrical features” before? That’s because Zamm has already made just one feature film that wasn’t made (entirely) for the small screen.

The Carrot Top-starring Chairman of the Board.

Yes, the plus side to this director pick is that Zamm knows how to work with children of all sizes.
