What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly column dedicated to having a bit of fun before sending you off to bed. And we don’t care if you ate your vegetables, we’re always down for dessert.
We begin this evening with a first image from Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing, in which Tom Lenk and Nathan Fillion play Verges and Dogberry, respectively. It’s that film Whedon just sort of made. He does fun things when he’s not making the highest grossing movie of the year and all that.
1. Should The Dark Knight Rises campaign for Oscar? – Yes, absolutely. If it feels itself worthy. This article from The LA Times seems to think that the Aurora shooting should be part of that discussion. It really isn’t a related issue. The quality of The Dark Knight Rises has nothing to do with a mad man killing innocent people. Warner Bros. is playing it cool on all things TDKR, out of respect, but it really shouldn’t have anything to do with an Oscar run.
2. Drafthouse Films is Wrong - The Austin-based distributor slash purveyor of delicious in-theater milkshakes has picked up the rights to Quentin Dupieux’s Wrong, the follow-up to the director’s hit cult oddity Rubber. It’s a movie that involves William Fichtner. I’m sold.
3. Wally Pfister and Chris Nolan are like a documentary unit – Christopher Campbell takes to the Documentary Channel’s blog with some great insight from Nolan’s longtime DP.
4. Five Favorite Films with Timothy Spall – The folks at Rotten Tomatoes have this long-running series of which I’ve long been a fan, in which they ask various stars to list their five favorite movies. The great character player Timothy Spall is up this week, with some awesome picks.
5. Walter “Heisenberg” White – This great piece of art (found via /Film) belongs on my Breaking Bad-loving wall.
6. The 10 Sexiest Movies Ever Made – Flavorwire tries their hand at listing the sexiest mainstream films of all-time. This reminds me of the time we listed the 10 hottest sex scenes of all-time, a list that’s not all too different from what Flavorwire came up with.
7. Indiana Jones’ Blu-ray special features – Peter Hall at Movies.com lists off the newly released extras offering of the upcoming Indiana Jones Blu-ray set. It’s going to be a pretty big one.
8. Hollywood Bowl salutes the scores of Pixar – This wins this week’s adorable-off.
9. 8 Great Reboot-ready Franchises – Peter Martin asks the eternal question: could they reasonably reboot Crocodile Dundee?
10. Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis audition for 50 Shades of Grey - Part of this is not-at-all funny. Then it heats up in the final moments, thanks to the improvisational genius of the hairy one.
