The Rocketeer

What is Movie News After Dark? It’s the nightly movie news that is always on time, even if it’s running late. Just think about it…

Disney may reboot The Rocketeer. Luckily, the original movie is said to be still in existence. So we’ve got that going for us.

On a lighter note, we’d like to congratulate Peter over at /Film for publishing the 500th edition of Page 2, a column that I personally read every time it’s published. It puts many other link-collecting columns to shame with its thorough investigation of the world of movies. And now, here are a number of links I’ve blatantly stolen from Page 2 this evening…

1. Edgar Wright on Tony Scott – The director of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and a bunch of other, slightly more commercially successful movies talks about his love of Tony Scott, who committed suicide this week. It’s a nice reminder that celebrating someone’s best work is the best way to remember them.

2. Never Hate a Director – Film Crit Hulk is also talking Tony Scott this week, as are so many in the business. He’s once again put his own astute, overly capitalized spin on the entire affair and is worth a read.

3. Breaking Bad by Ken Taylor – The following gorgeous work of art comes from artist Ken Taylor and the BreakingGifs project, an artist celebration of Breaking Bad. I want this bad, yo.

4. John Travolta in Toxic Avenger remake – What’s the over/under on whether this will be better or worse than Battlefield Earth? And how does the outrage from Toxic Avenger fans, assuming they can sober up long enough to be outraged, come into play?

5. Jaws comes back to theaters – The news that Jaws is coming back to theaters is one great thing. Another great thing is the round-up of the Movies.com Jaws Week coverage from editor Erik Davis. They really did a smash-up job on that. I applauded.

6. The definitive list of ridiculous action hero names – It’s pretty definitive. It even includes Di Nardo, as played by Wings Hauser in The Siege of Firebase Gloria in 1989.

7. Tim League in 70mm – The founder of the Alamo Drafthouse talks about the chain’s commitment to preservation and their upcoming “AlamoScope” film series that will include 70mm screenings of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, P.T. Anderson’s The Master and West Side Story.

8. Meet Frank – Over the years, we’ve talked a great deal about the theater experience. As a resident of Austin, FSR is no stranger to amazing experiences courtesy of the Alamo Drafthouse. But there are other theaters out there. One great one is ArcLight cinemas in Southern California. And they’ve made a sweet short about one of their greeters. As we close tonight, we’d like to say hello to Frank.
