They said it couldn’t be done. A fifth year of 31 Days of Horror? 31 more terror, gore and shower scene-filled movies worth highlighting? But Rejects always say die and never back away from a challenge, so we’ve rounded up the horror fans among us and put together another month’s worth of genre fun. Enjoy!
Synopsis:
Two lovable and charming rednecks find themselves tangled up in one mother of a misunderstanding when they cross paths with a group of teenagers out for a relaxing weekend. When their good intentioned rescue of a damsel in distress is mistaken for a kidnapping, teenager after teenager falls all over themselves in a misguided rescue attempt that almost always ends up with a confused redneck and a very dead teenager.
Killer Scene:
As the confused teenagers mount their rescue attempt, one go-getter takes it upon himself to attack Tucker with nothing more than a pencil while said hillbilly is working around the cabin, disposing of some junk wood in the ol’ wood chipper. With an untimely (or timely) bend, Tucker avoids the mad leap and shrieks in terror as his attacker sails into the wood chipper, instantly turned into a splattering of red good.

Sex
For some reason when horror and comedy mix, nudity gets the short end of the exchange. I don’t get it. Raunchy comedies have boobs. Horror films have boobs. Why don’t horror comedies have twice the amount of boobs? Are boobs not funny? Either way, we get to see one set of boobs from far off and later a girl is in her underwear.
Violence
Twelve lives get extinguished in a variety of ways and while it’s never overly violent, there are some clutch kills and some decent blood letting. One disappointing aspect of the film is in the misuse of CGI, which sometimes lessen the impact of the violence.
Scares
Tucker and Dale trade their scares in for laughs and no matter how ominous things get, you’re never in danger of letting a little pee-pee trickle out.
Final Thoughts
This was one of those films that built up a lot of hype in the festival circuit but didn’t really become available to wide audiences for some time after the initial word was in. Thankfully it lived up to the hype, for the most part. While it’s not your traditional Halloween fare in terms of a “scary movie” it is a wonderful celebration of the genre, much like my earlier pick Freddy vs Jason. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is a great party pick, a movie to drink and laugh too with a bunch of friends and the lights on or off. A great cast mixes in with lots of laughs and a decent amount of gore for a satisfying horror score. RHYMES!
