Just how bad is Nicolas Cage‘s IRS bill?
It’s no secret that Cage started taking any offer a few years back in an effort to stave off the tax man, and the result has been a series of films that not even he can tell apart. Seriously, can you spot the difference between Seeking Justice, Trespass, and Stolen? He’s managed to mix in a few accidental gems along the way, but it’s still a sad state of affairs for an Academy Award-winning actor with both talent and personality to spare. But that was just the beginning of his fall though.
Per Variety, Cage is negotiating to star in a theatrical reboot of the Left Behind series.
Holy shit indeed.
Left Behind is the first installment of a bestselling, sixteen-book series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins that chronicles the adventures of the sinners left on Earth after the Rapture has sucked all the goody two shoes up into heaven. The first three have already been made into movies starring Kirk Cameron as the man who comes to lead the Tribulation Force against the Antichrist’s Global Community. (Point to you if you read that as American Christians fighting the good fight against the United Nations.)
It’s assumed Cage is in talks to fill Cameron’s tiny shoes as the series’ central hero, but there’s every chance he could instead be interested in playing Nicolae Carpathia aka the Antichrist. Either way, the $15m film has a very good chance of making a healthy profit in theaters. Christian-themed movies are hit or miss at the box office, but when one clicks, Jesus’ fans come out in droves to support it. Cameron can’t get people to come to his birthday party, but his Christian firefighter film, Fireproof, scared up over $30m in profits. Cage’s name and befuddled face on a Left Behind poster and trailer would go a long way towards selling tickets.
