The lead-up to something like the Iron Man 3 trailer, which has arrived in the middle of the night like a sweet dream, is always a source of great debate. In this case, it was teasers for trailers piled on top of teasers for trailers. It’s a bit of annoyance, from a fan standpoint, to be consistently teased and toyed with, but it’s part of the game. Now the patience and frustration has paid off, as we have this new and glorious Iron Man 3 trailer to watch.
First, lets watch and then we’ll discuss.

Well, that’s a tonal shift. There’s something striking about the final shot, in which we see Stark walking through the snow, towing his broken down Iron Man suit behind him. There’s something to what Kevin Feige has said in recent interviews, that we’ll see Tony Stark at his most broken since he was captive in a cave in the opening act of the first Iron Man film. As Robert Downey Jr.’s voice-over explains, there are plenty of people out there who would like to kill him, which leads to some pretty (spectacularly) massive visuals. One hopes that the story, courtesy of new director Shane Black, will be tighter and more focused than Iron Man 2, especially with the caliber of villain presented in The Mandarin (who gets a killer intro here) and the presence of Ben Kingsley. At this point, all there is to do is hope. And perhaps just a little excited about what lies ahead for Iron Man.
