What is Casting Couch? It’s the casting roundup that has news about Timothy Olyphant putting on cowboy boots again. Read on!

Is Kristen Wiig going to be joining the cast of Anchorman: The Legend Continues? Maybe. The Wrap has a report that she’s being looked at to play the love interest (presumably replacing lamp) of Steve Carell’s dimwitted Brick Tamland in Paramount’s upcoming sequel. Of course, this one is far from starting filming (the script isn’t even done yet), and Kristen Wiig is being looked at for essentially every comedy that calls for a female part right now, so it’s hard to say if everyone’s schedules are going to synch up or not when all is said and done. Wiig getting thrown into the mix of the Anchorman crew does sound pretty dang promising though, doesn’t it? We’ll be watching this one for new developments very closely.

Casey Affleck

Casey Affleck

Not only does Casey Affleck have a rich history of playing characters from Boston, but he’s also got quite a bit of experience acting in movies that involve creepy killings, so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that he’s working to put together a project called Boston Strangler, about the ’60s-era serial killer. Warner Bros. has just acquired the rights to the film, which Deadline reports will be penned by Chuck Maclean and will most likely star Affleck as one of the detectives who was part of the Strangler Squad that ended up solving the crime. It’s said Boston Strangler is going to be similar in tone to Se7en and Zodiac, which I guess means they should be looking to get David Fincher to direct?

Dennis Haysbert

Dennis Haysbert

Due to Michael Clarke Duncan’s tragic demise earlier this year, the role of mob heavy Manute in Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming Sin City sequel has been left unfilled, which means that someone is going to have to step up and try to fill Duncan’s very large shoes. According to Heat Vision, Rodriguez has found that man. 24 actor Dennis Haysbert is reportedly going to pick up where Clark left off and be the new Manute, which is a role that Rodriguez describes as being, “the heart of the Sin City tales.” This isn’t the first time this sequel has had to replace a cast member. Jamie Chung has already signed up to continue the role that Devon Aoki played in the first film, so hopefully Haysbert will avoid sticking out like a sore thumb here…at least as much as the giant man who played Pedro Cerrano in Major League can.

James Badge Dale

James Badge Dale

Actor James Badge Dale, who has appeared in things like The Departed and Shame in recent years, was in The Grey and Flight this year, and has an impressive lineup of movies coming up including Iron Man 3, World War Z, and The Lone Ranger, just doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Showbiz 411 reports that the latest job he’s landed comes in that JFK assassination movie that Tom Hanks is producing called Parkland. Reportedly Dale has joined the cast in the role of Lee Harvey Oswald’s brother. He joins already signed names like Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton, and Jackie Weaver, which is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

Timothy Olyphant

Timothy Olyphant

As if S. Craig Zahler’s upcoming Bone Tomahawk didn’t already sound like the grittiest, grimiest, awesomest Western ever just based on its perfect title alone, it has now pulled a casting coup that’s going to get fans of the horses and mud genre looking forward to it even more. According to Deadline, Deadwood’s Seth Bullock himself, Timothy Olyphant, has just become the latest name to join a cast that already includes Kurt Russell, Richard Jenkins, Jennifer Carpenter, and Peter Sarsgaard. He’ll be joining the film in the role of John Brooder, a polished and elegant sharpshooter who moves to the frontier in order to indulge in the dark impulses that are bubbling beneath his preppy surface. Sounds like a role that’s perfect for Olyphant, seeing as he gave off such great douche-vibes in things like Go and The Girl Next Door. Bone Tomahawk!
