James Marsden

What is Casting Couch? It’s the casting column whose Wizards of Waverly Place fandom is finally coming in handy.

That upcoming comedy where Elizabeth Banks tries to juggle being a person with loose morals with being a person with career goals, Walk of Shame, has just added another actor. According to Variety, James Marsden has joined the film. There’s no word on what sort of character he’s going to be playing, and seeing as the film is about a series of adventures that occur as Banks’ character tries to get from the scene of a one night stand to a job interview across town, that leaves a lot of possibilities open. Will Marsden be a romantic foil? Just someone who pops in briefly for a humorous interaction? We don’t know, but since we all saw Death at a Funeral, what we do know is that Marsden can do goofy comedy. Hopefully this one will give him another chance to act silly.

Marcia Gay Harden

Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer may be getting up there in age, but their recent roles in things like Bernie and Beginners have proven that they’re still a lot of fun to watch on the big screen. That’s why the new movie where they play a couple of crazy kids who fall in love late in life, Elsa & Fred, looks pretty dang promising. The latest news regarding this project is that Marcia Gay Harden has joined the supporting cast. According to Variety she joins a list of names that includes Chris Noth, Jared Gilman, James Brolin, George Segal, Wendell Pierce, Reg Rogers, and Erika Alexander. This one is an English language remake of a 2005 film by Marcos Carnevale, so if you’re dying for more information about it, watching the original would probably be a good place to start.

Gregg Sulkin

If you love reading tabloids as much as me, then you’re probably also the type of person who’s constantly scanning the Disney channel for an indication of who the next crop of hot young actresses to get exploited by TMZ are going to be. And if you’ve ever scanned the Disney channel to keep track of the next crop of exploited actresses, then you’ve definitely come across the show Wizards of Waverly Place. Well, one of the kids from this show not named Selena Gomez, Gregg Sulkin, seems to be quietly building a successful movie career for himself. Not only did he get cast in three indie films last year, but he’s currently filming Isabel Coixet’s new film Panda Eyes, and Variety has word that he’s also been tapped to star in a new film called 1990. Co-written and to be directed by Jon E. Cohen, 1990 is a story about a kid who moves to a new school in his senior year and then meets girls and stuff. Probably he makes out with one of them.

Terrence Howard

Terrence Howard

When word first broke about Prisoners, it sounded like it was just going to be one of those parent trying to get back their kidnapped kid movies starring Hugh Jackman—which would have been fine—but as it’s filled out its cast with terrific actors, slowly it’s started to look like this one is going to be something more. Already this film’s cast included the aforementioned Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo, Paul Dano, Viola Davis, and Maria Bello, and now Deadline is reporting that you can also add Terrence Howard to the pile. This one is coming from Incendies director Denis Villeneuve, so it’s definitely going to be one to watch. That one kind of had some story issues, but it also featured some damn fine filmmaking. Villeneuve directing actors like Howard and all of these others should provide us with plenty of film-going goodies.
