Garrett Hedlund

What is Casting Couch? It’s the casting news roundup that was compiled today with the help of Daft Punk musical accompaniment.

You may not remember much about TRON: Legacy’s story, because other than its glowing lights and its pumping soundtrack, that 2010 sequel to Disney’s cult classic TRON was pretty dull. So, let’s refresh your memory. The movie starred Garrett Hedlund as the son of Jeff Bridges’ character from the first film. He went into the computer world, found his dad, and then there was a big battle. Remember all this? Good, because Next Movie just confirmed that Hedlund will be back for whatever TRON 3 ends up being called. Disney apparently started getting a script together for a third film just last week. This, of course, means that we’ll all now be keeping our eyes open for the real news regarding this new sequel: whether or not Daft Punk is coming back to do another soundtrack.

Ken Davitian

Recent days have seen casting heating up for Steven Brill’s upcoming comedy Walk of Shame. In addition to Elizabeth Banks in the lead, we now know that she will be supported by James Marsden as some sort of male lead and Gillian Jacobs as her best friend, which already makes for a cast that’s not too shabby. There’s more though. Deadline has news that Borat and The Artist actor Ken Davitian is the latest to join the film, as a creepy cabby who thinks that Banks’ character is a stripper and who consequently ends up putting her in several embarrassing situations. Sounds like this project is getting ready to add a little racism to its slut-shaming…can’t wait!

Kathleen Rose Perkins

In addition to starring Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader as a pair of adult twins, upcoming comedy The Skeleton Twins has also got funny people like Luke Wilson and Ty Burrell on in supporting roles, so it’s not really sweating whether or not you’re going to want to go see it. In order to sweeten the pot a little bit more though, director Craig Johnson has just added the lovely Kathleen Rose Perkins to the cast. She’s been in things like Showtime’s Episodes and Diablo Cody’s upcoming Lamb of God, and Deadline says she’ll be joining this film as Wiig’s longtime friend and former classmate.

Dylan McDermott

Dylan McDermott

We already know that Chandler Riggs and Joel Courtney are going to be starring in Mercy, Peter Cornwell’s upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King short story “Gramma,” which is about two boys who travel to visit their ailing grandmother only to discover that she’s a witch, but now things regarding this project have just been taken up a notch. While attending a press event for American Horror Story, Shock Till You Drop just got word from Dylan McDermott that he’s going to be joining the cast as well. Seeing as this looks to be very loosely based on King’s original story, which didn’t really contain any adult male characters, it’s hard to say what kind of role McDermott will be playing; but chances are his character is going to be handsome. You can take that to the bank.

Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt

Longtime Christopher Nolan cinematographer Wally Pfister’s debut as a director, Transcendence, will star Johnny Depp as a dude whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer post-death by a female scientist, that much we know. But what we don’t know is who’s going to play the female scientist. There’s good news on that front though, because Deadline is reporting that it’s down to three names, the lucky lady should get picked by Friday, and whichever one Pfister and company end up going with, it’s going to be a winning choice anyway. That’s because the three actresses they’ve narrowed it down to are Emily Blunt, Rooney Mara, and Rebecca Hall, who are all stunningly talented and would probably do great things acting opposite a big star like Depp. Apparently Blunt’s availability is being called into question due to how her dates on All You Need is Kill line up with this film’s shooting schedule, but that’s okay, because this might be the first time ever that it wouldn’t be a huge disappointment if a movie lost out on a chance to cast Emily Blunt. Who of these three to choose? Why choose? Gotta cast ‘em all.
