We may be midway through December, but it’s not too late to be thinking about what to get for those movie lovers close to your heart. Speaking from personal experience, it’s oftentimes hard to surprise your movie lover with something, as they likely have every DVD you can think to get them, and what interests are more interesting than movies, anyway?
Fear not – I’ve got a few week’s worth of good ideas that will delight even the biggest movie nerd with a variety of gifts that reach beyond the $5 DVD section at Target.
Today, in a special edition, the idea is gifts inspired by your friends’ favorite movie characters. Either they’ll delight in the fact that these gifts remind them of their favorite films, or perhaps they resemble these characters in certain ways that would make these gifts a naturally good fit. Of course, self-gifting is never discouraged….
VINCENT VEGA, PULP FICTION
Vincent Vega is one badass motherfucker. He’s a man who takes a book on toilet, eats mountains of pancakes, takes a book on the crapper, and is a connoisseur of only the finest of recreational drugs. What might a Vincent Vega fan want to find under the Christmas tree? I’ll take a stab at that one… better make use of my red marker.
Zingerman’s Bacon Club Membership
Priced from $99-$189
Since Vincent thinks that “bacon tastes good… pork chops taste good…” this might be the perfect gift for anyone who uses that movie line to explain their predilection for pork products. This particular bacon club was featured on Food Network’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate,” and features two options: a three-month option priced at $99 (Month 1: Applewood Smoked; Month 2: Kentucky Dry Cured; Month 3: Arkansas Peppered) and a six-month option priced at $189 (the first three months plus Month 4: Virginia Dry Cured; Month 5: Tennessee Dry Cured; Month 6: Long Pepper). This is real.
The Black Lizard Big Book of Pulps
Priced at $16.50 (Amazon)
When Butch guns down Vincent, he is reading a pulp novel on the john — so clearly Vincent took the film’s title to heart. This anthology book has over 1000 pages, containing over 47 stories and two complete novels. If this seems too heavy to lug around on the subway, it’s also available for Kindles — thank goodness for technology. It might also give some insight into Tarantino’s many inspirations for the film for the fans out there.
UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs T-Shirt
Priced at $21.95 (at Made In Santa Cruz)
What Pulp Fiction fan wouldn’t want to own this t-shirt and serve up some Casual Vincent Vega Realness in quotidian life. Look like a dork… and be proud. After all, it’s your shirt, motherfucker!
