The lethargy inherent in being in between two of the biggest holidays of the year has made this week kind of a dead zone for movie news, but a couple of studios have still been throwing us bones by delivering extended previews of what they’ve got coming up in the next year. Just yesterday we were treated to the first four minutes of zombie comedy Warm Bodies, and today Warner Bros. is upping the ante by bringing us the first six minutes of their upcoming Maniac remake. Six minutes! That’s two more than yesterday. At this rate, tomorrow we may get to see the first eight minutes of something. And then, eventually, entire movies will get released without us having to pay for them at all. What a world.

Maniac is a remake of a William Lustig film from the early 80s about a creep that murders women, and as you can see from the first six minutes of this update, that basic story still seems to be intact. The big difference here is that this new version, from director Franck Khalfoun, casts Elijah Wood at its murdering psychopath. And, honestly, isn’t it always awesome when Wood gets a little bit creepy? From his early role as the angel to Macaulay Culkin’s devil in The Good Son, to his super saccharine turn as Frodo Baggins, Wood often gets cast as the baby-faced cherub. But every once in a while, in things like Sin City or Paris, je t’aime, his eternally youthful face gets used to creepify, and it’s usually a welcome change of pace. Check out the new clip and see just how fun watching a hobbit stalk and scalp a woman can be.

Wait… fun isn’t the right word. Ah, just watch it.
