As if the casting situation regarding the lead role for James Gunn’s upcoming Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, needed to get even more heated, today brings news that yet another candidate has been reading for the lead role of Peter Quill: AKA the half-human, half-alien intergalactic cop called Star-Lord. Michael Rosenbaum, who’s no stranger to the comic book world given his many years playing Lex Luthor on TV’s Smallville, recently took to his Twitter account to inform his followers that, “Read for my pal @JamesGunn GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY for PETER QUILL. What a treat! Thanks Jimmy. @Marvel.” If you can’t read Twitterspeak, that means Rosenbaum now joins Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zachary Levi, and Jim Sturgess in the stable of actors we’ve heard are up for the role.

Hayley Atwell
You know what they say: the good Galactus giveth, the good Galactus taketh away. So along with the news that there are a bevy of promising young talents vying for a spot in a new Marvel property comes the sad news that an old favorite won’t be reappearing in another. Ever since Joss Whedon was making The Avengers, there have been rumors that Hayley Atwell would be making an appearance in another Marvel property to reprise her role as Captain America’s 40s-era girlfriend, Peggy Carter, but the actress confirmed in an interview with Time Out London that this isn’t going to be the case; or at least that it isn’t going to be the case for the upcoming Captain America: First Avenger sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Perhaps this might signal the beginning of a string of new girlfriends for ol’ Cap, and finally we could have an American equivalent to James Bond.

Brie Larson
Brie Larson, an up-and-coming actress who was quite charming in last summer’s surprise success, 21 Jump Street, looks to be getting a big chance to anchor a film as its star—but her chance isn’t going to be coming from Hollywood. Showbiz 411 is reporting that Larson has caught the eye of a well-funded young producer who intends on giving her the starring role in Basmati Blues, a feature that’s being filmed entirely in India. Dan Baron will be directing this film, which is said to include original music by the group Sugarland and should give Larson ample opportunity to show off her talents, both as an actress and as a musical performer. Given the big business that is the Bollywood musical, it will be interesting to watch and see if this could be the beginning of a trend where more Hollywood actors go overseas looking for gigs.

Ashley Tisdale
High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale is continuing on the long, arduous journey that is getting the Disney Channel stink off of yourself in order to be viewed as a legitimate actress, and, as her recent roles display, that’s a transformation that’s more easily talked about than accomplished. Recently we’ve seen her in ads as the star of the absolutely abysmal-looking Scary Movie 5, and now Deadline brings us the unfortunate news that she’s being cast opposite Nic Cage in the bigger budget remake of those religious Kirk Cameron movies that were called Left Behind. Turns out it’s hard out there for hot, young blonde girls. At least she’ll get a chance to experience the Cage craziness up close? Is this more or less promising than prancing around in a bikini for Harmony Korine?
