John Krasinski

The deluge of rumors concerning James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy continues unabated. This time around the source is Comic Book Movie, who says they have a shadowy operative close to the production and his or her latest round of snooping has led them to believe that not only is The Office’s John Krasinski the latest in a parade of actors to read for the role of Peter Quell, but that there’s also a shortlist of actors being considered for the role of the Guardians’ resident green guy, Drax the Destroyer. Rumor has it that Generation Kill actor Brian Patrick Wade; that guy from the Old Spice commercials, Isaiah Mustafa; and former professional wrestler Dave Bautista are all being looked at. Presumably they’re in some Hollywood back lot right now, letting Gunn take test footage of them destroying things.

Vinnie Jones

An epic in scope war movie called The 34th Battalion just added a couple new names to its ensemble cast. According to Deadline, Stephen Lang and Vinnie Jones are the latest to sign up for the film, which tells the story of four men from New South Wales who decide to join the army after the Gallipoli Campaign, where the Allies disastrously failed to open up a sea route to Russia. The foursome go on to fight the Germans in all sorts of heroic WWI battles. Lang is playing an American officer, while Jones is playing the British leader of the battalion. They join already cast names like Luke Hemsworth, Emilie de Ravin, Charles Mesure, Les Hill, Claire van der Boom, Tony Bonner, Andrew Lees, and Vince Colosimo.

John Malkovich

The Giacomo Variations is a Michael Sturminger show that’s described as being a “chamber opera play,” and that’s been traveling all over the globe for the past couple years. The show stars veteran screen actor John Malkovich as an aging Casanova who retells some of his most lurid romantic exploits in the form of surreal operatic flashbacks. Given Malkovich’s experience in the movies, it should come as no surprise that Sturminger is keeping him in the lead role now that he’s turning The Giacomo Variations into a feature film. Or, at least, this is the plan according to Screen Daily. Sturminger and Malkovich have worked together in film before, on a movie about an Austrian serial killer called The Infernal Comedy.

Tom Selleck

Is there any solid news regarding a third Three Men and a Baby movie? No, but one of the three men is making it known that he’s perfectly willing to be cast in another one, and the film is said to be in some form of early development. Cinema Blend dug up some Tom Selleck comments (which were made on the CBS daytime talk show, The Talk), the general gist of which is that he says is that he’s talked to Ted Danson, he’s talked to The Gutte, and everyone is on board as long as the pencil pushers can crank out a good script. The concept for the film would look something like Three Men and a Bride, which sounds like a sensible storytelling reason for another one of these movies to exist and is a great excuse for us to all indulge in the sure to be delightful experience of seeing Selleck, Danson, and Guttenberg reunited in 2013. You’ve got your principal cast on board, studio monkeys, let’s get them a script!
