What is Casting Couch? It’s the column that’s rounding up all the casting announcements the studios have released now that the buzz surrounding the Golden Globes has died down. They’ve been hoarding.
Before his show on FX became such a well-respected thing, people thought of Louis CK mostly as being a stand-up comedian and not really as an actor, despite the fact that he’s shown up in a few small roles here and there. That might be about to change though, because not only does CK star in Woody Allen’s upcoming movie, Blue Jasmine, but THR is reporting that he’s also in talks to join David O. Russell’s next project: that con-man movie starring Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, and Amy Adams that used to be called American Bullshit. If CK’s involvement becomes official, it will see him rubbing onscreen elbows with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, which is probably going to feel a little weird at first.

Jerry Lewis
Raise your hand if you didn’t know Jerry Lewis was still alive. Yeah, I feel bad about it, too. Not only is Lewis still kicking, but he’s also getting ready to take his first film role since 1995’s Funny Bones. According to Deadline, the Rat Packer starts work tomorrow on an indie feature from writer/director Daniel Noah called Max Rose. He’ll be starring as a jazz pianist who loses his wife of fifty years, but who discovers something surprising about her a couple of days before her death that sees him going out on an exploration of his past. The film also features Claire Bloom, Kevin Pollak, Kerry Bishe, and Mort Sahl. Okay, raise your hand if you didn’t know that Mort Sahl was still alive…

“Kid Cudi”
Also from Deadline is the news that hip hop personality Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi is the latest name to join Scott Waugh’s video game adaptation, Need For Speed. If you’ll remember, this is the one that stars Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul as some sort of racecar driver who has to drive across the entire country as quickly as possible in order to get revenge for the murder of his best friend. Because, apparently, he’s never heard of buying a plane ticket. Regardless, Kid Cudi has signed on to play the best friend, so expect to watch him die horribly.

Billy Campbell
The Killing’s Billy Campbell just got a new job. According to THR he’s going to be joining Gil Junger’s latest comedy that cashes in on the list making craze, 10 Things I Hate About Life. This is the one that stars Evan Rachel Wood and Thomas McDonnell as a couple of young lovers who meet while they’re both trying to commit suicide by jumping off of the same high thing at the same time. Campbell will be playing the McDonnell character’s father, a snooty lawyer who doesn’t want his son dropping out of law school to try and have a career in music. That sounds like a perfectly reasonable position to take, but, of course, it seems like he’ll be painted as a villain for the purposes of this story. Lousy kids.

Eric Lively
Been dying for more casting news concerning A Madea Christmas? You have a pulse, so of course you have. We learned a few days ago that not only is this movie about Tyler Perry dressing in drag and going out to the country to celebrate Christmas going to exist, but it’s also going to star names like Chad Michael Murray, Kathy Najimi, and Larry the Cable Guy. This was big news. But sweetening the pot even further is Variety’s report that Eric Lively is the latest name to join the cast. He’s going to be playing the husband of the daughter who Madea is traveling to visit. Not quite sure who Eric Lively is? He played Nick Larson in The Butterfly Effect 2, and Jamie in that one episode of Full House, “Is It True About Stephanie?”Yeah, now his name is ringing a bell. You’re welcome.

George Clooney
It’s been rumored that George Clooney was going to be starring in Brad Bird’s mysterious sci-fi project, 1952, for a while now, but given the project’s hush-hush status over at Disney, it’s never been something you could be certain about. In a recent press release [via /Film] that established release dates for a bevy of upcoming Disney movies, however, Clooney’s involvement was finally made official. As was the fact that 1952 will be coming out on December 19, 2014, and it will be presented in 3D. If I’m not mistaken, this will be our first chance to experience Clooney in three-dimensions, which has to be seen as a huge event. How big around do you think his head is? If it feels like his furrowed brow is close enough to reach out and touch, are you going to try? Just on instinct?
