As any enthusiastic, detail oriented Trekker would tell you, the DVD and Blu-ray release of J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek reboot included several deleted scenes that involve villain Nero (Eric Bana) and his crew being caught and imprisoned by the iconic Enterprise adversary the Klingons. The trip to the Tower of Klingon was cut from that movie, but the design of the Klingon getup and the promise of their presence in this newly created Star Trek world was there. Now a new prequel comic for Star Trek Into Darkness is adding fuel to the fire that burns inside those of us who want to see Klingons emerge amongst the many lens flares.
The heads up comes from Nerd Bastards via io9, a look at the cover of IDW Comics’ Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness #4. It features the same Klingon design, complete with badass warrior helmet, that we saw in the deleted scenes on the previous Blu-ray. So it begs the question: will we be seeing some Klingons in the final cut of the sequel? With the shroud of secrecy still around the villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch and his plot to destroy all that Kirk and crew hold dear, there’s nothing but possibilities.
It should also be noted that this further confirms what was seen in a reel of Star Trek Into Darkness shown to press in early-December.
