Johnny Depp

What is Casting Couch? It’s a thing on the Internet that’s primarily concerned with which actors are going to be in what movies. Today it includes news regarding attractive folk like Colin Farrell and Lily Collins.

For the last decade or so, Johnny Depp has largely been occupied with wearing makeup and putting on silly wigs, but once upon a time he used to play actual human beings in movies like Donnie Brasco and whatnot, and while it didn’t afford him the opportunity to use nearly as many crazy voices, things weren’t so bad. Things were so decent, in fact, that Cross Creek Pictures has announced [via ComingSoon] that they’ve cast Depp in another gangster story that’s based on real life events, just for old times’ sake. Depp will be playing infamous Boston gangster Whitey Bulger in director Barry Levinson’s (Toys, Jimmy Hollywood) new film Black Mass. Bulger, for the uninitiated, was a gangster who informed for and was later double-crossed by the FBI. Those cads.

Emily VanCamp

Emily VanCamp

After an extensive search, brothers Anthony and Joe Russo are said to have found the female lead for their upcoming Marvel sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. According to Deadline, they’re bringing in the star of ABC’s Revenge, Emily VanCamp, to play a big role, the specifics of which have yet to be disclosed. Of course, given that VanCamp is a young blonde woman, and given that one of Cap’s most important supporting characters in the comics is a young blonde SHIELD agent that goes by the name of Sharon Carter, one might want to jump to a conclusion or two and say that VanCamp is going to be playing Cap’s new girlfriend who’s creepily related to his old girlfriend. But for now we’ll have to wait for an official confirmation on that front.

Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell has just joined a long-in-development serial killer movie called Solace. To be directed by Afonso Poyart, Solace is a movie about a young detective who has to coax a haunted and reclusive doctor out of retirement because he needs his help catching a serial killer. Apparently this doctor was some sort of murder expert, but he hasn’t helped the police in years—ever since his daughter was killed. Anthony Hopkins is already attached as the doctor, and Farrell is said to be playing the killer, so that means Poyart only needs to find his detective, and then he’ll have a complete set. What kind of a doctor is an expert in murder? [Deadline]

Bruce Greenwood

Atom Egoyan’s kidnapping thriller, Queen of the Night, keeps making casting news. It seems at this point like the director isn’t going to let even the smallest role in the film be filled by anyone less than a name actor. The latest name to join the cast is Bruce Greenwood, which isn’t much of a surprise, because he’s an actor who’s already collaborated on four projects with Egoyan previously. The THR report that broke the news of Greenwood’s casting didn’t specify which role he’ll be playing, and all the characters who appear in the film’s plot synopsis seem to already be taken, so maybe he sneaks in there as a cabbie or a doorman or something?

Jocelin Donahue

Jocelin Donahue

Recently all the casting news we’ve gotten regarding director James Wan’s projects has come out of that untitled thriller he’s doing about dead ghost hunters, but today Variety broke some news regarding his big, upcoming sequel, Insidious 2. According to the trade, horror veteran Jocelin Donahue (The Burrowers, The House of the Devil) has joined the film in the role of “young Lorraine Lambert.” If you remember from the first film, “old Lorraine Lambert” was played by Barbara Hershey, so barring her character getting possessed by some sort of anti-aging demon, it looks like we’re going to be getting some flashbacks. Or maybe they’re playing two characters who happen to have the same name and have been given callous nicknames so that other people can tell them apart. But probably not, because that would be stupid.

Lily Collins

Lily Collins

Jennifer-Connelly-clone-turned-actress Lily Collins has just landed another role. According to Variety, this Disney Princess come to life has just signed on to star in a romantic comedy called Love, Rosie, which will see her acting opposite Snow White and the Huntsman actor Sam Claflin. Collins and Claflin star as a couple of best friends whose lives go in different directions once they become college-aged, but who keep in touch and maintain a relationship even while separated by distance and while living in very different circumstances. The synopsis doesn’t say if at some point in the movie they suddenly realize they’re more than friends and have a big, dramatic smooch…but wouldn’t that be just crazy? *squee*
