What is Casting Couch? It’s a handy list of the day’s casting news. Today we’ve got a joyous confirmation and some intriguing possibilities, including some huge news about the A-list director Matthew McConaughey may be working with next.
So far all of the casting news we’ve learned about Matt Reeves‘ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has regarded actors coming on board to play human characters, but in an exciting twist we now we have a tidbit about who’s going to be putting on a motion capture suit to join Andy Serkis’ Caesar over on the ape side of the equation. Vulture is reporting that Judy Greer (Arrested Development, The Descendants) has joined the film in the role of Cornelia, the hairy dame who’s serving as a love interest for Caesar. If Greer’s long history of being solid in supporting roles isn’t enough to convince you that she’s qualified to pull off such an out there role, Vulture also has a scoop that she had Planet of the Apes-themed toppers on her wedding cake. So, you know, turns out she’s a weirdo. Sounds great.
It looks like Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo aren’t going to be left behind when New Line’s upcoming Vacation gets underway. While the reboot of the classic comedy is indeed going to star Ed Helms as a grownup Rusty Griswold who’s taking his own family out on the road like his father before him, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room in the trip to make a stop at grandma and grandpa’s house, so Variety is reporting that Chase and D’Angelo are now negotiating to come on board in order to revise their characters in a small appearance. If they end up officially signing, they’ll be joining the aforementioned Helms, as well as Christina Applegate, who’s on board to play Rusty’s wife.
Want some more casting news regarding Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man sequel? Well, good news. Even though the project is already filming, Webb continues to leak nuggets of info to obsessive fans over on his Twitter account, and today he tweeted a picture that confirms The Office’s B.J. Novak is going to be appearing in the film in some capacity. Webb’s pic came with a caption that read, “A supposed rumor about a Dunder-Mifflin takeover of Oscorp?” Could we take this to mean that Novak will be playing some sort of baddie working for Chris Cooper’s Norman Osborn? Quite possibly. Or maybe he’s just been experiencing hard times since leaving The Office, and is now getting people coffee on film sets. We’re willing to bet on the former though.
Any time we hear that Sir Matthew McConaughey is going to be appearing in a new movie, it’s always a cause for celebration, so get ready, because Deadline has news of a possible casting for the actor that could serve as an excuse to throw an all-time rager. Apparently Christopher Nolan has offered the toned and oiled one the lead in his next film, a story about wormholes and time travel called Interstellar that’s either science fiction or just progressive science, depending on whose theories you back. It should be noted that this is just an offer and no deals are yet being hammered out, but one has to imagine that as long as McConaughey doesn’t have any super-important bongo-playing sessions planned for when this one is scheduled to film, then our chance to see Nolan and McConaughey working together is finally here. Alright, alright, alright.
