What is Casting Couch? It’s the easiest way to stay abreast of who’s going to be doing what in the world of acting. Today we have casting news regarding the Veronica Mars movie as well as a look at what Chloe Moretz might be working on next.
Given her experience playing a big, blue badass in James Cameron’s Avatar, Zoe Saldana is no stranger to embodying characters who aren’t exactly human—so that’s probably why James Gunn is looking at her to take the female lead of his upcoming Marvel Studios ensemble, Guardians of the Galaxy. Heat Vision is reporting that Saldana is currently in talks to join the film as Gamora, the Guardians’ resident green-skinned, sword-wielding assassin. If Saldana signs on, that would be all of the more human members of the Guardians taken care of, which would leave Gunn with only a walking tree and a talking raccoon to cast. Wish him luck when it comes to figuring that out.

Will Arnett
In more green-skinned characters with extreme fighting prowess news, Will Arnett is said to be the latest name who’s joining Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Heat Vision has the story, and though they’re not sure which role Arnett signed up to play, for some reason they’re relatively certain that he won’t be playing the Turtles’ sports equipment wielding friend Casey Jones.
That, of course, leaves big possibilities like the Turtles’ rat-master Splinter and their arch-enemy Shredder still on the table, as well as the possibility that he’s just playing some random character who’s not a part of the property’s previous canon. You have to admit that it would be pretty amusing to see Gob Bluth don a suit covered in razors in order to dedicate his life to fighting a couple of turtles though.

Lea Seydoux
(Midnight in Paris, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) did with Telegraph to promote a short film that advertises Prada stank she’s teaming with Anderson on, she also revealed that she spent a few days last year doing some filming for TGBH. The fact that she was only on set for a few days probably means that her role is a small one, but hey, the more pretty French ladies in a movie the better. [via Dark Horizons]

Jean Reno
Given the fact that Hector and the Search For Happiness, the upcoming Simon Pegg-starring romantic comedy, already has a cast that boasts names like Rosamund Pike, Stellan Skarsgård, Christopher Plummer, Desiree Zurowski, and Jakob Davies, it might seem a little bit greedy for it to add two more actors as talented and charming as Toni Collette and Jean Reno to the list—but Deadline is reporting that they’ve gone ahead and done it anyway. Greedy bastards.
Serendipity director Peter Chelsom will be directing this one from a screenplay he co-adapted from a Francis Lelord novel with Tinker Lindsay. It’s about a psychiatrist who travels the world in search of the definition of happiness.

Jim Sturgess
Brad Anderson’s followup to The Call, the Edgar Allan Poe-inspired thriller Eliza Graves, has just found a leading man to star opposite Kate Beckinsale. Heat Vision is reporting that the man for the job is Cloud Atlas actor Jim Sturgess, who will be playing the role of the young med school graduate who starts working at a mental institution unaware that all of his fellow staff members have been replaced by psychotic patients posing as doctors.
Beckinsale is playing the title character, a crazy lady who Sturgess’ young medical man reportedly becomes obsessed with, the way young medical men are apt to do.

Jason Dohring
Though the Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter still has a little over a week to collect money for its funding, Veronica Mars show-creator and film-director Rob Thomas is wasting no time in getting all of the pieces he will need to make the actual movie together. The first and biggest piece, of course, was Veronica Mars herself, Kristen Bell, but we’ve known that she was on board from the very beginning.
The new news, broke by THR, is that Jason Dohring, the actor who played Veronica’s sometimes psychotic, on again/off again boyfriend on the show, Logan Echolls, is also on board for the movie. Thomas has promised to keep the fans who are funding the film abreast of all the new castings as they become official, so we should be hearing more about this one soon.

Chloe Moretz
Dark Places sounds like a pretty twisted story. It’s about a girl who testifies that her brother murdered her whole family, locking him up for life, and is then approached twenty-five years later and asked to reconsider her testimony by a group of murder-obsessives who are looking to clear his name. It sounds so twisted, in fact, that it’s just perfect for the girl who recently starred in the remake of Carrie. So, given the easy fit, Deadline is reporting that Chloe Moretz is currently in negotiations to join the film as a character named Diondra, who has a relationship with the accused murderer. If Moretz is made official for the film, she’d be joining Charlize Theron, who’s already on board as the lead character. That’s a dynamic duo if I’ve ever seen one. Chances are actors are now lining up by the hundreds to try to get the chance to play the murdering brother.
