Look, when you get an Oscar nomination for acting in a cowboy movie, you don’t just stop acting in cowboy movies, okay? That’s why True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld has now signed on to appear in that new movie that Tommy Lee Jones is directing about crazy ladies who’ve been out in the West traveling across the prairie and back to the East, The Homesman. According to Deadline, Steinfeld will be playing the role of Tabitha Hutchinson, who is described as being barefoot, poor, simple, and teenaged. She’ll be joining a cast that already includes Jones himself, Meryl Streep, Hilary Swank, James Spader, John Lithgow, and Tim Blake Nelson, which is pretty good company for a barefoot simpleton.

Connie Britton may look dynamite for her age, but she certainly doesn’t look young enough to be respectably dating Girls star Adam Driver. That’s kind of the point though, seeing as she’s just been cast as the much older, psychoanalyst girlfriend of Driver’s character in the ensemble comedy This is Where I Leave You. Inside Movies has the scoop, and they assure us that Britton’s character’s background in psychology and seeming shamelessness in schtupping a man many years her junior will provide all of the other characters in the film’s dysfunctional family—played by names like Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, and Corey Stoll—ample opportunity to get upset and humorously freak out. There. We got through this whole write-up without ever once using the word cougar.

The most important thing to make clear when you’re talking about the remake of Heat that Jason Statham is set to star in is that it’s not a remake of Michael Mann’s Heat, but a remake of the Burt Reynolds movie from the ’80s that nobody really remembers. Anyway, the new news regarding this Simon West-directed remake comes from Deadline, and it’s that Stanley Tucci, Anne Heche, Cedric the Entertainer, Hope Davis, and Milo Ventimiglia have all just joined the cast. That should give Statham plenty of new faces to scowl at, threaten, and ultimately prove to be incompetent, as Statham is want to do in movies like this. Not that I’m suggesting that all Jason Statham movies are exactly the same or anything…

Youthful British actor Tom Holland has barely had a chance to get over being swept up by a tidal wave in Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible, and already Ron Howard is scooping him up for another project that’s going to leave him adrift at sea. According to Deadline, Holland is the latest name to join Howard’s Chris Hemsworth-starring whaling pic, In the Heart of the Sea. This one has been in the works for a while, so perhaps you don’t remember it—it’s the one about the whaling vessel that got destroyed by a sperm whale back in 1820, a story that eventually became the inspiration for “Moby-Dick.” Sounds like there are more challenging, soggy shoots ahead for Holland. Next time around he might want to get cast in a movie that’s set somewhere land-locked.

Solace is a supernatural thriller starring Colin Farrell as an FBI agent and Anthony Hopkins as a psychic doctor who team up to try and track down a killer, that much is certain. Those two main pieces of the film’s casting puzzle have been in place for quite a while without us hearing about any of the other roles getting filled, however, so what’s the deal? The deal is that a little corporate changeover at Disney resulted in this one being delayed for a bit, but now things seem to be moving forward again, and casting has recommenced. The first new move director Afonso Poyart has made, according to Variety, is to cast Abbie Cornish as the female lead of the film. This is a convenient move for all involved, because seeing as she just recently starred opposite Farrell in Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths, she should be an easy fit here. You know, unless she’s terrified of Anthony Hopkins or something. Then there might be a period of adjustment.
