Over the past few months it’s become pretty clear that if you want to keep up with all of the latest news regarding Fox’s upcoming time travel mutant epic, X-Men: Days Of Future Past, you have to go no further than simply following its director, Bryan Singer’s, Twitter account. Every new casting announcement, every little plot detail, and every glimpse of what’s going on behind the scenes has pretty much come from Singer, who seems eager to control who knows what about his movie.
Earlier today he took things up another notch by utilizing Twitter’s relatively new video platform, Vine, to give fans another nugget of info regarding what they can expect from Days of Future Past. More specifically, he confirmed that this new X-Men movie will include comic characters who we’ve never seen in an X-Men movie before. Along with the caption, “Every mutant needs a place to sit,” came the following video:
If you’ll notice, the chairs include names that we’re all familiar with, like Logan, Xavier, Storm, Magneto, and Xavier, but they also include two characters who we’ve never heard mentioned in conjunction with this particular film before: James “Warpath” Proudstar and Bishop.
Who are these dudes? Well, Warpath is a Native American mutant who’s super strong and super fast, and he’s the little brother of an X-Man named John Proudstar, AKA Thunderbird, who had similar powers and was one of the first X-Men to be killed in the line of duty. If you look over the list of names who Singer has cast for the film and who don’t yet have a character definitely attached to them, you’ll notice that Twilight vet Booboo Stewart—who played a Native American werewolf in those films—is the candidate most likely to be stepping into the role.
Bishop is the time traveling, energy absorbing mutant from the future who we theorized Omar Sy might be playing back when he was cast in the film, and who we also theorized could be the character who is the catalyst for all of the time-travel shenanigans necessary for this story to take place. Of course, Bishop wasn’t yet created when the ‘Days of Future Past’ storyline was originally published in writer Chris Claremont’s “X-Men” comic days, but the well-liked animated version of the X-Men’s stories that aired on Fox in the early 90s managed to work him into their version of the tale.
Let’s be honest though, nobody really cares much about the particulars of how all the time travel stuff is going to happen, we just want to see giant Sentinels blasting all of the flesh off of Wolverine’s adamantium bones. We’re a bloodthirsty lot.
